Hello everyone!
My name is Daniel Nunez and I am one of the two authors of the banana biotechnology project. I personally gravitated towards banana due to them being my favorite fruit of all time! Everything from their robust yellow color to the multiple different ways of cooking them makes them my favorite. Another reason I chose bananas is their unique genetic profile. Current cultivars are triploid or tetraploid and rely on modern day genetic engineering to create new mutations.
Greetings banana connoisseurs!
My name is Bailey Perrizo and I am the co-author of the biotechnology project. The banana is deeply embedded into many cultures which makes it imperative to ensure its future success. As Daniel mentioned the banana crop is unique genetically as well as biologically. This sparked an interest for me to figure out how we can solve this complex issue. Aside from scientific curiosity, I can not live without fried plantains or chocolate covered-bananas; therefore, a solution must be found.
